As a resident of Orlando - let me suggest that you do NOT - NOT- allow any students to walk down I-Drive at night without a chaperone (or large group). We've had a few I-Drive muggings in the past (tourists loaded with cash). It's been quiet for a while, but just letting you know that it isn't all Disney in these parts. That aside, I'm looking forward to welcoming everyone to our city and meeting as many of you as I can. We have never been able to go to convention due to costs, and my students are excited beyond words about this event.

Rene,
It seems like MEARS transportation is your best bet.

As for Wal-Mart, it is on the other side of I-4 from the hotel. You cannot see it, but it is there. I assume you could take a taxi there, and back. That would be your cheapest option. Last year when I brought 25 kids to Anaheim, I had one chaperone take the Disneyland Shuttle with 21 kids, and I took 4 with me in a van that I rented. We used that van to go to Wal-Mart to buy things for the group....and those kids filled up a CART...and USED every bit of it during the 3 days we were there. That could be an option, however it may be expensive to rent a van for 3 days, but it sure did come in handy.

For food at the Rosen, they will have buffets (eat until you're full and more) lined up for a set-price. Below are the different prices on the meal buffets with the 20% discount. These prices are inclusive of service charge and sales tax. Please remember the discount only applies in Café Matisse Restaurant (at the hotel) and only for the buffet.

Breakfast -- Reg. price $15.95++ with beverage -- 20% discount -- $12.31 per person with beverage

Lunch -- Reg. price $13.95++ without beverage -- 20% discount -- $15.37 per person with beverage

Dinner - Reg. price $16.95++ without beverage -- 20% discount -- $18.66 per person with beverage

The hotel will also have a 24 hour store open to satisfy anyone's late night appetite.

Outside the hotel and right across the street at Pointe Orlando is Johnny Rockets and Hooters.

A walk North on International Drive (I-Drive) is Subway, Friendlys, and a walk South is Red Lobster, and further down is McDonalds and IHOP. The walk seems like it is a shorter distance from the Disneyland Hotel to Disneyland through Downtown Disney. You can also take a trolley if you wish to go further. They will have maps of establishments on I-Drive or you can go download this pdf file.

Hi STN -

Sorry if this question has been asked before, but what's the best (aka least expensive) way to get from the airport to the Rosen Hotel?? Company/Shuttle Name?? And, price (per student/adult)?? Does the Rosen have a "free" shuttle?

I just bought my Disney World tickets...thank you Karen for the info!? And, now, the last big thing is just getting to the hotel.? Someone mentioned (I think it was in the STN Convention tips) about stopping at Wal-Mart when the students arrive.? I think that's a good idea.? Is the Wal-Mart close to the Rosen hotel?? And, is there a shuttle or bus from the hotel that can take us there...just looking on ways to save money - a quick stop at Wal-Mart is going to save us lots of money.?
